A faux-wood grain garage door with a narrow window band on a contemporary house

Faux wood

Timber look.
Steel behaviour.

The finish that solves the West Coast problem: cedar looks superb here and the weather is hard on it. Faux wood keeps the look and drops the maintenance to almost nothing.

The honest comparison

A joiner would know. Nobody else would.

Modern embossing and overlay finishes have got convincing enough that the difference is a close-up conversation rather than a street-view one. On a west-facing elevation without an overhang - where real cedar needs recoating every three years - this is usually what we would put on our own house.

  • Convincing grain and stain tones
  • No refinishing, ever
  • Insulated core as standard
  • A fraction of the cost of real timber
